The 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12), organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), took place in Cairo, Egypt, from November 4-8, 2024. Under the theme “It All Starts at Home: Local Actions for Sustainable Cities and Communities,” the event has attracted over 20,000 participants from 182 countries, including heads of state, ministers, mayors, scholars, youth leaders, business executives, and representatives from international organizations and local communities.
As a key partner in facilitating seamless multilingual dialogue, TAIDEN plays a crucial role in meeting the forum’s communication needs. TAIDEN has equipped 46 conference rooms with nearly 7,000 sets of state-of-the-art simultaneous interpretation devices, alongside advanced software, audio input/output devices, and audio distributors, ensuring effective communication throughout the five-day event.
TAIDEN's professional technical team arrived 20 days prior to the forum to install, configure, and test the interpretation systems, ensuring flawless operation during the extensive international discussions.
Cutting-Edge Technology Ensures Effective Global Dialogue
With more than 600 events covering six key themes, the World Urban Forum requires a reliable and accurate multilingual communication solution. TAIDEN’s simultaneous interpretation equipment has been deployed throughout the venue to ensure that all delegates could participate in discussions without language barriers.
A total of 123 interpreters have been on-site, providing interpretation in nine languages, as well as sign language. This ensured that all participants, including those with hearing impairments, could engage fully in the various sessions and dialogues.
TAIDEN’s digital infrared interpretation systems, including transmitters, receivers, interpreter units, and radiators, are strategically deployed across the venue. The interpreter units support up to 64 channels of simultaneous interpretation, while the receivers provide 40 channels, ensuring all attendees received accurate and clear translations in their preferred language.

Key Products Driving Seamless Communication
TAIDEN’s digital infrared receivers, compliant with the IEC 61603-7 standard, offer an ultra-wide 270° reception angle, ensuring stable and clear audio reception from any location within the conference room. The LCD screen displays intuitive information, making it easy for users to select language channels and adjust volume settings.
The digital infrared radiators, installed on both sides of the venue, come in 25W and 35W options, providing coverage ranges of up to 50 meters and 97 meters respectively. These radiators support 40 channels of interpretation and feature 13 adjustable angles for precise signal coverage, contributing to clear communication throughout the event.
The interpreter unit, used in interpreter booths, complies with the ISO 20109 standard. It supports up to 64 languages, including the floor channel, and features 7 preset input channels and 3 output channels. With an audio sampling frequency of 48kHz and a frequency response range of 30Hz to 20kHz, the unit ensures exceptional audio quality. Additional features such as hearing protection, password management, and customizable settings enhance both interpretation accuracy and user experience.
In addition, TAIDEN's 16-channel audio input/output distributors are crucial in ensuring both in-person and remote attendees can receive high-quality sound with no delay. These devices support the input and output of up to 16 analog audio signals, offering scalability for larger events. They convert the conference's digital audio signals into multiple outputs, facilitating the seamless synchronization of local interpretation for online attendees.
TAIDEN's equipment also plays a key role in broadcasting the forum to a global audience. The 64-channel×4 portable audio distributor, featuring four-channel output with independent channel selector and volume control, enables real-time interpretation broadcasts on UN Web TV, allowing online viewers around the world to follow the discussions in their native languages.
The software used during the forum is equally essential to its success. TAIDEN simultaneous interpretation software focuses on precise configuration and real-time management of the interpretation process, while the dual system main unit hot spare software ensures continuous and stable meetings. Together, they form a reliable technical foundation that supports the smooth flow of the event.
As the 12th World Urban Forum concludes, TAIDEN’s contributions highlight the company's ongoing commitment to supporting global events with cutting-edge interpretation and communication technology. By overcoming language barriers, TAIDEN helps ensure that participants from around the world could actively engage, share knowledge, and collaborate on solutions for sustainable urban development.
