On September 17-18, 2016, the 17th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement was held on Margarita Island, Venezuela, where 14 heads of state and high level delegates from over 100 nations and international organizations attended the Summit. The Non-Aligned Movement started in 1961. Since then a meeting will be held every three years. Among the current 120 member countries, most are developing ones. China became one of the observer nations of the Movement in September, 1992.
